Not Ghosts, But They May Look Like Them

Many times I see pictures of "ghost" which are not. Most often, a photographic cause can be found to many images. It is very easy to make "ghost" images, often by mistake. None of the images below were made on purpose, but they are pretty good examples of photographic phenomena causing unexpected images.

This image was created by a flashlight lying on the rail road tracks and a camera in night mode being moved by the photographer while the shutter was still open. (It is nearly impossible to keep a camera still while in night mode unless you use a tripod)

This image appears to possibly be ectoplasm. But, it is not. See the photo below.

This image is obviously a flashlight, the stream is caused by using night mode on the camera.

Here is a picture of an image at the end of the tunnel, it isn't a ghost, it's me. My son took the picture from the opposite end of the tunnel, be sure you know where everyone is.

Floating Coffins, Floyd County, Kentucky

My wife's grandmother lives up in a hollow in Floyd County. She lives on a farm which has an old coal mine and it's own graveyard. She has looked out the windows of her house and seen very strange things, such as a coffin floating across the ground of the graveyard. Strange things have happen, such as the potatos planted in the garden turning into stone. This place is very strange and unsetteling. Sort of the kind of place where strange is normal. You never know what you might see, or think you see. I think it's important to realize the Appalachian mountains are the oldest in the world. Who know what has happened there over the thousands of years they have existed.

A Waking Experience, Floyd County, Kentucky

When my mother-in-law was young she went to a wake with her mother. One of the neighbor ladies had died. Going to the neighbor's house required crossing a creek. On the way back from the wake, it had gotten late and dark. Her mother lit a match so they could see to cross the creek. The match jumped out of her hand and they saw a form. It was of the deceased neighbor.

I've heard several haint tales from the mountains in Eastern Kentucky. I will include some of them in my blog. I thought this one was particular interesting.

Maysville Cemetery, Mason County, Kentucky

On 9-5-09, we visited the Maysville Cemetery in Mason County, Kentucky. We were doing a daytime site exploration and found some things we had never seen. I have several family members buried there, but I had never been to the old part of the cemetery. Some graves as old as the early 1800's. Here are a few pics we took. No paranormal issues to report, but we didn't breakout all the gear, just a digital camera to document land marks.

Places We've Investigated

Here is a brief list of places we've investigated.
--Blue Licks State Resort Park, Robertson County, Kentucky, where the last battle of the Revolutionary War was fought. More than 100 men were killed in the battle. We've captured lots of orb photographs, other photo anomolies and an evp with video orb activity.

--Talbot Tavern, Bardstown, KY. This old tavern was at one time the furthest west stage coach stop. It has hosted Jesse James, who shot holes in the walls in the back room and Louis De Phillipe during his exile, he painted murals on the walls of several rooms.

--Savannah, Georgia, we investigated the Colonial Park Cemetery, Boneventue Cemetery, and several old buildings. I highly recommend Sixth Sense Ghost Tours, for a good historical perspective to the ghost of Savannah.

--St. Augustine, Florida. We captured several orb photo's and had a great time.

--Bethany Cemetery, Mason County, Ky. We investigated the "White Lady of Bethany". We have made several investigations there, including one at midnight on Halloween. We captures several orb photo's and the image of Mary on her tombstone. Please see the previously written blog about our findings.

The Apparition of the old Fleming County Hospital

One of the newest ghost stories that I have heard was the story of the apparition at the old Fleming County Hospital, in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. The hospital is a small local hospital that was built in stages in the 1960’s and 70’s. At one time the hospital had a facility located in the West Wing called The Extended Care Facility. This was basically a nursing home for people who either due to age or illness would never be able to return to a normal life at home. This would later be phased out as that a local nursing home was constructed.

During the 1990’s the hospital began to regain some status as more and more specialist began working with it. The surgery quantity and quality began to pick-up as well as several other specialties. One of the newer services that was offered was a Sleep Lab. This is used to analyze sleep disorders to so that proper patient care can be given. The Sleep Lab was located in the West Wing where the Extended Care Facility once was.

One night a man and his wife were at the lab. They began calling for help from the nurses. A large spider web like object began to appear and disappear in the room over the bed as though it was phasing in and out of existence. The man, his wife along with several hospital staff witnessed the event. This must have went on for several minutes as that the staff was able to get a video camera and tried to tape the event. Unfortunately the tape failed to re-play afterward.

The Sleep Lab was later moved to a different part of the hospital and offices were located in the West Wing until demolition in late 2008.

It would be interesting to know what the diagnosis was for the patient. I would also like to know if the apparition was tied to the patient or to the room.

Witch Burnings in Fleming County, Kentucky

I found this article in an old "Kentucky Explorer" magazine. Here is the link.
http://www.kentuckyexplorer.com/nonmembers/05-04story.html I grew up on Maddox Rd on a small farm. The back of our farm met the back of the farms that run along the road between Mt. Carmel and Beachburg. I never heard of this story, but I can honestly believe it happened. Many of the people I knew in the area are religious zealots. Many honestly believe that the Catholic Church is Satanic. I have heard of the Rolph family name, but didn't know of any living in the area when I grew up. The area is largely an Amish community now. My father still owns his farm.

My father and the USAF

My father and I have always talked about UFO's and what the USAF knew about them. I began keeping a record of our recent conversations about them since he was getting elderly. I wanted to have a reference of the material.

7/8/07 Re: UFO Photos
Today, I was watching a UFO show on the National Geographic Channel. It had said that the Roswell, New Mexico crash was not general public knowledge and that no books had even been written on it until 1978. I recall being with my father at a pharmacy in Flemingsburg, Kentucky and purchased a magazine with articles about UFOs and aliens when I was a small child, between 7 and 10 years old. In 1978, I was 15 years old and my attention had switched from UFOs to cars. Maybe it was because of who my father was, but I have known about the Roswell crash as long as I can remember.

I called my father and discussed with him his experience in the Air Force and about UFO photos that he had seen. He was in the Air Force between 1949 and 1955. After his 1st year, he switched over to the Air Force Reserve. In the Reserve, he was part of the 509th Troop Carrier Wing in Wilmington, Ohio. He was a clerk in the Maintenance Supply Group Headquarters. He worked for Colonel Frank Haynes.

He said that there were 2-3 photos and a file about the Roswell, New Mexico crash. The photos were of the debris field, crashed ship and 3-4 bodies 1 appeared to be standing. He said, he had also seen the photos on modern day television shows. They had big heads and eyes, and appeared to be 3-4 feet tall. One day in January or February of 1952 or 1953, they went to Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. They were told the trip was to go and see the wreckage from Roswell. Once they got there, they were told that it “couldn't take place today”. They ended up seeing the museum at the base. He said that Wright Patterson AFB had lots of underground tunnels, 100 to 150 feet deep. He told me that lots of research took place there. He said that they had wind tunnels and other facilities underground. He figured that was where the wreckage probably was.

Also, when I was a child, I could remember that Action News 5 from Cincinnati, Ohio had a camera crew go in the infamous Hanger 18 at Wright Patterson AFB. There was not much to see, just a normal hanger. The precept was that all the wreckage had been moved from Wright Patterson, to a secret location, maybe Area 51.

In the area where I live, there have been lots of UFO sightings. I plan to go and see these locations and try to find out as much as I can.

11-25-07
I called my father to discuss some TV programs about UFOs and Wright-Pat. The show was showing the released photos of the weather balloon debris. Dad said, “what I saw, was no weather balloon”, referring to the photos he had seen while in AF Reserves at Wilmington, Ohio.

This is a patch I made commemorating the group from the Roswell Army Air Force which recovered the UFO evidence in 1947.

Revisit to Blue Licks, Robertson County, Kentucky

In October 2008 we did another investigation of the battlefield at Blue Licks. Here are some of our photos that we thought were very interesting.

We could not account for these strange orange lights.

Once again, many orbs were there captured.

This green light was very strange, we had nothing which had a green light on it.

The small red light amongst the trees could not be accounted for.

Are these phantom soldiers at the tree line? This reminds me of people being "beamed up" in Star Trek. One of the most interesting photographs I've seen.

The Ghost of Bethany Cemetery, Mason County, Kentucky

In Eastern Mason County, Kentucky, there is a cemetery at the Bethany Christian Church. It is a small cemetery with only a few dozen graves. Most of the graves date between the early 1900’s to present day. The grounds are well kept, but I’m not sure that the church still has services. There are a variety of tombstones types in the cemetery from obelisk to small flat vertical rectangular stones. The church is a small frame one-story structure in the middle of the cemetery. An American flag flies on a 30 foot flagpole along the drive leading to the church.

Since I was very small I have heard stories of how one of the graves had a ghost that appeared at night. I have heard stories of many motorist that were startled as the ghostly image of a woman would appear on one of the obelisk as they drove along Cabin Creek Road.
My mother showed me where the grave was when I was a kid. On Decoration Day (Memorial Day) we would visit the cemeteries to decorate the graves of our family. We would go to Bethany to decorate the grave of Mary L. Hughes. The wife of John K. Weaver. They were my Great-great Grand parents. During the visits to the cemetery my mother would tell me the story of the apparition that had purportedly occurred and that the ghost had appeared on the tombstone of my Great-great Grand parents. My mother always told me that the was story that Mary was a person of such an unpleasant disposition that her image came out on her monument. Then she would always discount the story by referencing the poem that was on the tombstone. Saying, if she was so mean, why would anyone put such a lovely poem on their tombstone. Reading the poem again, I concur with my mother on the personality of Mary.

This is the poem on the tombstone.

Through all the pain she’d smile,
A smile of heavenly bliss,
And when the angles called her home,
She smiled farewell to the earth.

Heaven retainith now our treasure,
Earth the lonely casket kept,
And the sunbeam’s love to linger,
Where our smiled mother sleeps.

Weep not that her toils are over,
Weep not that her race is run,
God grant that we may rest as calmly,
When our work here is done.

Til then he yield with gladness,
Our mother to him to keep,
And rejoice in sweet assurance,
He givith his loved one sleep.

This poem was not attributed to anyone so I am not sure who authored it. Perhaps her husband or one of her children.

This is the side of the monument with the poem engraved upon it.

I have never personally witnessed the ghost but, I have heard this story from many different people, most not knowing that I had any personal relationship to the story. My sister who was a high school teacher in a neighboring county has had children in her classes tell the story when they would talk about local lore and legends. My sister would amaze the children when she would be able to finish the story with the details of the cemetery location as well as the fact that the woman was her Great Great Grandmother.

I have video taped the grave to document the story. When playing back the tape, the faint image of the torso of a woman appears on the monument. I did not notice any image while taping the site, only afterward while reviewing the tape was the image evident. everyone who has viewed the tape has seen the image. Perhaps the image is only noticed because we are looking for it, perhaps it a image created by light and the aging marble stone. Perhaps the image is the ghost.

In memory of:
John K. Weaver
November 7, 1867-January 26, 1916
and
Mary L Hughes, his wife
January 19, 1870-January 29, 1900

On July 5, 2003, I went and photographed the grave, I took 49 photographs, only 2 had any noticeable anomalies. Both anomalies appear to be orbs. Here are the photographs.
This is an photo of the side of the obelisk that the ghost appears on.

The stone is the middle obelisk monument in this photograph. This is one of many of the ghost stories in the area that I hope to document. If you look carefully, you can see an orb located between the 2 right obelisk and directly above the small stone between them.

I returned to the cemetery on October 31, 2003, at midnight to attempt to get further evidence of the ghost. I took several photos of the graveyard, particularly of the gravestone in question. Here is one of the photos.

Is this image, the “Ghost of Bethany”?

There was still no evidence of the ghost, my son and I were very comfortable in the cemetery, no unusual feelings. I took another photo of the stone, with this photo, we found many orbs, not exactly ghosts, but very interesting.

Are these orbs, “ghosts”

I returned back to Bethany on a ghost hunting mission on October 31, 2004 with my son, Tommy, and a friend Roger. We took many photographs, there were no anomalies, except for the image on the grave stone. Here is a photograph of that.

Once again, the image of Mary appears on the stone.
Here are links to articles that appeared in the Ledger Independent Newspaper about the Bethany Ghost.

Blue Licks State Park Ghost

On February 17, 2006, Blue Licks State Park sponsored a paranormal night. They had several guest from various paranormal groups. I was allowed to take my ghost hunting equipment into the museum to see what we could detect. I captured this on video and audio. To hear this, you will need to turn up the bass on the player. Starr Chaney from Psytech is speaking with the spirits as we are leaving for the night and getting ready to go lights out. I picked up a second deep voice saying "thank you" and at the same time an orb floats up to the ceiling. Now keep in mind this is in the dead of winter, no bugs should have been around at the time.

Baird Music Hall, Morehead, Kentucky

At Morehead State University, the main music building is called Baird Music Hall. I was always told that on the top floor on the East side that an old janitor's ghost still roams the hallways. I haven't investigated the building properly, but I have been up there with just a couple of friends after dark, this place is creepy. We didn't see a ghost, but didn't want to either. Many of the rooms are sound proof and the windows have been bricked over. If there is a ghost there, it wouldn't surprise me any.

The Lady of The Lake, Cave Run Lake, Rowan County, Kentucky

When I was in college, I was told of how if you want to Paragon Point at midnight on the full moon, that you could see the ghost of a lady in the lake. The story goes that as they built Cave Run Lake, they purchased land from local residents that would be flooded. The lady was suppose to have been left in one of the houses that were purchased, burned and later flooded. I have no way to verify any truth to the story. You were suppose to flash you head lights and sound your horn in a certain sequence and the lady would appear. I went to the point with a couple of friends, we tried various combinations of light and horn sequences, but we never saw anything.

My First Shadow Person

I was in the eighth grade. I was asleep in bed. I woke to a dark figure entering my room. It came towards my bed. I kept the covers tight to my face afraid that it might see that I was awake. The figure came to my bed, stepped on my bunk and got in the top bunk. It seemed to have weight, as that I saw the springs for the top bunk stretch downward as it would if a person were in it. I laid there in total fear. Sometime in the night I fell back to sleep. When I woke up, the upper bunk springs were no longer stretched. The bunk covers had not been disturbed. I went to the breakfast table and inquired as to whether anyone else had been in my room. Everyone denied having been there. To this day this event scares me. I don't know what got in that bed, but it wasn't anyone in the family.

My First Ghost Sighting, Fleming County, Kentucky

When I was in the forth grade, my grandmother fell and broke her hip. She developed pneumonia and her health gradually got worse. We had reached the point which we knew she was going to die. On evening we got a call, my father and mother left to go and see about her. They were gone until very early in the morning. After I went to sleep I was woke by a light in my bed room. The wall in my room was lit up in the shape of a person. After I saw it, the figure slowly faded. I found out the next day that it was about the same time my grandmother died. I will always think that she gave me one last visit as she passed on.

Black Triangle UFO near Ewing, Kentucky

In April, 2003, my wife and I had been to Lexington. As we drove over the bridge at Blue Licks we saw a spot light off in the distance which was shinning from an air craft. I told my wife that I thought it might be the police looking for someone walking along the rail road tracks. I had seen this before in Millersburg a few years earlier.

As we got closer to our house I told her I thought the light was near our house. When we pulled into our drive, we saw a large black triangle UFO. It had a dimmly lit light on each corner. It made no sound at all and was barely moving.

Here are some pictures which I added triangle illustration to show what we saw.
